The Runners Club: I have now run  Marine Corps Marathon  six times.
And then the Knoxville Marathon once.

The 2007 marathon was a great experience. Weather was perfect. Last 6 miles were a little tough with pain slowing me down. But I finished!

2008 Marathon -- I finished with a little quicker time. No pain in the legs, just a little stomach issues. Wow, this pushes my limits. More training for the next one and those limits can possibly be pushed back some. I’m always amazed at how much harder than training those miles from 21-26.2 are!

2009 Marathon: I ran between all refreshment stations. That was a first for me. And with a slower pace I took a little longer than the previous year. About 550 miles of training (I was aiming at 600 but flu interrupted that for 3 weeks).

2010 Marathon: I ran the first have better: 2:15:49 and then kept that pace until crossing the 395. Slowed into Crystal City as my stomach acted up. Think I need faster pace in training...

2011 Marathon: You cannot skip half the training and still do as well! I did run several 26 mile training runs (one week apart), but that, apparently, did not make up for all the missed prior training mileage...

2007 Results: 26.2 miles in 5:30 -- First half split was 2:20
2008 Results: 26.2
miles in 5:03 -- First half split was 2:15
2009 Results: 26.2 miles in 5:08 -- First half split was 2:19
2010 Results: 26.2 miles in 5:16 -- First half split was 2:15
2011 Results: 26.2 miles in 5:50:39 -- First half split was 2:34

2007

Over 20,000 other runners finished. ~17000 in front of me and ~3000 behind. Wow! But the Marines made it all go so smoothly.

2008

Over 18000 finishers, I moved up a little to around 12000. It seemed like a lot more runners this time -- just a solid pack around me for much of the race. But it was all good.

2009

I ran between all refreshment stands. Took a little slower pace, but didn't allow myself to walk (was harder than it sounds!).

Training plan I developed for 2010 Marine Corps Marathon...
Intermediate level training plan that I also used for the Knoxville Marathon.

Marathon Schedule

Intermediate Training Plan for 2012 Marine Corps Marathon.
To properly start this plan, be running 20-25 miles per week before the start date of the plan!

Marathon Schedule

This time I will try to mix up the pace a bit: do some hill training and sprints.
